  About

Chef Jean-Joel Bonsens’ experience began in his native France at the three-star Paul Bocuse restaurant in Lyon after finishing “meilleur apprenti cuisinier (top student chef) de Seine et Marne” in 1986.  From Bocuse he joined the two-star restaurant, Les Templiers in Loiret, whilst later moving in 1991 to work alongside Chef Christophe Royer at Restaurant Christophe. Within two years Jean-Joel earned the top position as Chef de Cuisine carrying on Chef Royer’s classic French tradition while continuing his experimentation with the unique spices and influences the different regions the Mediterranean have to offer.

Matching Jean-Joel’s menu to perfection are the wine selections of Ellen Mansfield, sommelier.  Mansfield’s choices from distinct Mediterranean vineyards, locations including France, Spain, Italy and Portugal, complement the food exquisitely. Her extensive knowledge of smaller vineyards ensures uniqueness to her selections. These unique wines complement the more traditional European wines also found on the list. Their collaboration has created the perfect union.

In January of 2006 Jean-Joel Bonsens and  Ellen Mansfield took over the ownership of Restaurant Christophe from Christophe Royer, the original owner since 1987.  In the fall of 2006, architect Jeroen Wolterink gave the restaurant a fresh, new look, in line with the vision of Ellen and Jean-Joel. The basis of this plan being an environment for a warm, elegant dining experience.
